Emmy’s Little Scoop: What Makes ScoopAble Feel Like Home

Before I applied to ScoopAble, I thought having a job meant that you clocked in, got the job done, and clocked out. But when I walked into ScoopAble for the first time, I had a feeling that this place was different.

Turns out, that feeling was spot-on. My former teacher (she’s awesome) first took me to ScoopAble, and I had never heard of a place specifically hiring people with disabilities

I remember my first thought being, “Wow, really? A place with people like me? Maybe I should apply…”

“Wow, really? A place with people like me? Maybe I should apply…”

I had never had a job. I didn’t know what to expect, yet something felt different about this place.

So I applied.

That was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have since learned valuable skills like adaptability. I had to learn how to switch from a quiet store with a few chattering customers to a room packed shoulder-to-shoulder, my brain going a million miles a minute.

But the part that makes this place feel like home and not just another ice cream store is the team. The team is filled with intelligent, hilarious, and all-around the sweetest people you will meet.

And the support that our customers give makes a difference, too. I’ve had some sweet moments with customers, and I love that I get to shine and be myself.

“I love that I get to shine and be myself.”

So it all comes down to this: love all around, getting to be in my element, and all the while learning things that will help me moving forward… that’s what makes ScoopAble a place that feels like a second home.

And all of this wouldn’t be possible without our awesome community. So keep coming in, keep enjoying those delicious, handmade scoops and cones, while savoring the memories you’re creating.

Because every scoop really does make a difference.

Emmy, Scooper
